Sashakt Talkies Episode 8: Mamta Goenka in conversation with Avijit Dutt

Sashakt Talkies - Let's Downplay Cancer is a first of its kind talkshow exclusively bringing out the stories of brave cancer warriors to inspire the world. Episode 8 of Sashakt Talkies is hosted by Avijit Dutt. Avijit has impressed with meaningful projects in diverse genres as a social activist and an interventionist with seminal work in child welfare and consumer affairs. His acting and directorial ventures for theatre has left a trail of over 100 plays in English, Hindi and Bengali. He has played pivotal roles in eminent Hollywood and Bollywood films and in various web series. He has worked for the launch of the Childline with UNICEF and National Human Rights Commission teaching communication to Post Grads. His featurette on Child Abuse, Akkad Bakkad, Screened in the parliament and the Cannes Film Festival 2010, are extensively used for Advocacy by UNIFEM. He has written 6 full length plays and is possibly the only actor with two Patent Applications Filed.

Our guest for today is Mamta Goenka, a cancer coach at Tata Memorial Hospital and a breast cancer survivor. She initiated the post-op class in 2007, after seeing how oncologists were hard-pressed for time to respond to all the questions a patient may have. Her 3-hour class, held twice a week, is free (but compulsory) for patients.

She also conducts free one-on-one sessions on request for breast cancer patients. Mamta is among a small number of cancer coaches in the country who provide a personalized service to help patients get through a minefield of questions about their recovery, including nutrition and prosthetics, but, more importantly, to raise their morale. She offers them the strength to return to a "normal" life.
